Romance is a narrative genre that involves different themes ranging from mystery, adventure, and love, and twists it all into one spiritual storyline. These are the pieces of work that make your heart skip a beat. They make you want to feel what the characters are feeling. Modern adaptations of romance usually involve stories that have a relationship issue as the main focus.

Most romance films capture the essence of love at first sight, young love, obsession, and sentimental love. Generally, in a romance story, two individuals in a relationship are struggling to make their situation work. There may be multiple obstacles in the way that are trying to hinder their relationship. The writer may involve different subplots in the story as long as the main plot focuses on the romantic relationship between two subjects. Usually in romantic films, the subjects go through the film overcoming monuments that are in the way of their love, and in return receive emotional justice and unconditional love.

There are many different production techniques that are specifically used for Romance films. With lighting, most of the time cinematographers will use soft lighting. Romantic scenes are meant to be warm and inviting, using harsh lighting will create horrible shadows, making the viewers uncomfortable. Having the correct type of music will move the audience such as jazz music, slow classical music, and sometimes instrumental music would add. These together will create an overall romantic ambiance when watching a Romance film

Marketing:

Nowadays marketing strategies have changed for all genres of film. Many romance films try and target young audiences, specifically young ladies. They do this by reaching them through social media. Many films are now advertising quick ads through Instagram, Tik Tok, and Twitter. This grabs the attention of a young teenager who most likely does not have the best attention span. Actors can also engage with the target audience through their own social media. Many well-known actors can promote the film through their accounts and engage in many PR events that build up hype for the movie.

The first film that I have chosen as an example is Call Me By Your Name. This has to be my favorite romance film. This movie encaptures perfectly the essence of love at first sight and forbidden love. This film takes place in a small town in Italy and is a story about two men. The two subjects face many obstacles getting in the way of their relationship. Throughout the entire film, they sneak around seeing each other in hope that no one will catch them. The film is filled with warm-toned scenes as it takes place in the summertime, this is done in order to make the audience feel comfortable and welcome. Many elements of classical music are used as the characters are seen playing the piano throughout the film.

The second film that I have chosen as an example is La La Land, even though this is a musical it can also be classified as romance. This movie introduces the characters as they are both trying to find their purpose in the world. They get together and immediately hit it off and then begin to face those obstacles that are common to a romance movie. Their relationship with each other is hindering them from following their dreams as they want to pursue completely different paths. This movie is filled with bright colors to enhance the image of the film. Yellow is used a lot in this film to indicate that there is some sort of change coming up ahead and this is usually true as Romance films carry out an extensive journey that involves an abundance of dramatic change.
